2021 Recap: Kyle Whittingham has a nice team out in Salt Lake City. From a statistical standpoint. they led the Pac-12 in scoring in conference play averaging 37 points per game. Quarterback Cameron Rising was a godsend to this team. The minute he stepped on the field, he led and his teammates followed. Another star of this offense was running back Tavion Thomas. The staple of this Utes group is defense and it was strong once again in 2021. They won the South, punched their ticket to the conference title game and handled their business against Oregon. That would end up being their first conference title in school history.
Key Departures: WR Britain Covey, OT Nick Ford & LB Devin Lloyd.
2022 Prediction: Yes, USC will be more improved with Lincoln Riley. However, the path to a conference title still runs through Salt Lake City. I’m picking Utah to win their division once again. Cameron Rising and Tavion Thomas are both returning. The offense should still remain one of the best in the conference. As usual, the defense will rise to the occasion and be the backbone of this entire team. Kyle’s group returns five defensive players from 2021.
