Tyreek Hill was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. During his rookie season, he was used primarily as a return specialist. Watching him for the first time, you were immediately wowed by his speed. Since then, he’s transitioned to playing wide receiver full time. Over the last few seasons, Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek have become one of the best quarterback/wide receiver tandems in the league. Today, the news came out that the Chiefs were willing to listen to offers for the star wide receiver. The madness of this off-season continues! Kansas City has traded Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, two fourth-round picks, and a 2023 sixth-round pick.
Because of his well-known speed, Tyreek has earned the nickname “Cheetah”. He’s one of the five best wide receivers in this league. We all know about his ability to get down the field at any time. That goes without saying. What’s unique about Tyreek is his ability to get into tight spaces where he appears to be bottled up, then he reaccelerates, cuts on that dime, starts, stops, then turns the engines back on, and uses that speed once again to get up the field. He’s so elusive once the ball hits his hands and knows how to maneuver himself in space. I’ve compared him to a human joystick and have often called him one of those players “you create on Madden”. After the catch, he’s a magician. If you don’t attempt to tackle him right away, he will make you pay. I believe he’s one of the most electrifying offensive players in the NFL today. If you need proof of how electric he can be, watch the highlights of the game when the Chiefs played the Buccaneers back in November of 2020. In the first quarter, Tyreek had over 200 yards receiving. That’s what can happen when you don’t double him or at least have safety help over the top. Tyreek ran circles against the Bucs secondary that day.
This wild off-season continues and I’ve loved every minute of it. With a healthy Tua Tagovailoa, he has two speedsters to get the ball to now in Tyreek and Jaylen Waddle. With the trade, the Dolphins gave their new acquisition a four-year deal worth $120 million which officially makes him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league today. This is a splash for the AFC East.
