2020 Recap: I really like the direction this team is going in. Mack Brown continues to get the best of this team. This offense can run with the best of them. They have so many weapons. When I watch Sam Howell, I’m often reminded of Baker Mayfield. After throwing 38 touchdown passes in 2019, he threw 30 more last season for the North Carolina Tar Heels. The defense was the biggest concern for the Heels last year. At times, their offense had to sustain long drives to support the defense. They made a New Years Six bowl where they fell short to Jimbo Fisher’s Texas A&M Aggies.
Notable Departures: RB Michael Carter, RB Javonte Williams, WR Dazz Newsome, WR Dyami Brown & LB Chazz Surratt
2021 Prediction: I feel this is the year the Tar Heels take the Coastal division. There’s a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Miami Hurricanes and no other team in the division really grabs my attention. Sam Howell will have a new supporting cast of weapons on offense as Michael Carter, Javonte Williams and Dazz Newsome all playing in the NFL. I don’t see the offense missing a beat. Can the defense step it up? Yes, Chazz Surratt is gone, but this means others will step it up in his place. Cornerback Tony Grimes is a rising star and Tomon Fox is expected to have a big year in Chapel Hill.
