5. Russell Wilson– Numbers ten through six are in the books. Five names remain. When the 2012 NFL Draft took place, Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, and Ryan Tannehill were some of the names selected. In the third round with the 75th pick, a quarterback from Wisconsin was selected. Russell Wilson is officially making his debut on my annual list. He checks in as my fifth-best player entering the 2020 season. This is also my third-ranked quarterback entering the season.
When he first came into the league, I saw a game manager who had the luxury of a consistent running game along with one of the best defenses in the league. Over the years, he’s become a quarterback that can take the game into his own hands. He’s a fantastic leader. That entire Seahawks team feeds off his energy. It’s a defensive backs worst nightmare when you face a quarterback that can throw the football on a dime or with a moving pocket. I like the patience he displays because he never forces or rush a play. If a defense doesn’t contain him, he’ll run all around your defense. Russ is a magician with how he’s able to keep plays extended. He’s one of the best deep passers in the NFL. You think he overthrows the ball. Although it hangs, it falls right into the breadbasket.
Russ put together the best season of his career in 2019. Early on, he was the favorite to win the league’s MVP. He stumbled a little bit toward the end of the year, He threw 31 touchdown passes on the year which was third-most in the league, a low five interceptions and threw for over 4,000 yards (4,110). His development has been remarkable over the years. The Seahawks are lucky to have him.
