For 20 years, he was the New England Patriots. You couldn’t mention them as an organization without any talk of their big three (Tom, Robert Kraft, and Bill Belichick). For the first time in his legendary career, the iconic quarterback was going to test the free-agent market. On March 17th, Tom announced on social media that he would continue his football career elsewhere. For the first time in his career, he will be wearing the colors of another team. The future Hall of Famer will sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
I was shocked that he decided to leave the only team he’s ever known. What Derek Jeter was to the New York Yankees, what Kobe Bryant was to the Los Angeles Lakers is what I always said about Tom with the Patriots. The debate on the greatest quarterback ever came to an end after he won his fifth Super Bowl. He’s done more with less talent around him. I’ve seen him lose a key weapon per season but still manages to win football games with whatever he has around him. He’s never been the most athletic, but the guy simply displays grit each week. His footwork is still top-notch. Occasionally, you’ll see him make throws on the run. This happens more in his 40s now than it did when he was younger. Tom Brady is just mentally tough as they come.
The trend of legendary quarterbacks going to another team has continued. For the first time in his career, he will be wearing another uniform this upcoming season. I can’t wait to see what he can do with Mike Evans as his top target. Or Bruce Arians as his head coach who’s an offensive-minded guy. The Buccaneers have not made the playoffs since 2007 which is the second-longest drought behind the Cleveland Browns. With his move to the NFC South, we will now get to see Brady and Brees face each other two times a season.
