1. LSU Tigers– A week off I’m sure did them some good. They’ve been on a tear all season. This is who should’ve been number one in the first set of playoff rankings. In my opinion, they have the best resume with three wins over three top ten teams. All I will say to the committee is they’re much better than this! Today is arguably the game of the year. LSU, Alabama. Saban Bowl sixteen. I can’t wait to release this preview.
2. Ohio State Buckeyes– They’ve been a top two team in the country all year long. The last time we saw them, they were facing a Wisconsin team who looked to give them a few fits in the beginning until the Buckeyes just pulled away. The dominance they’ve displayed has had everyone talking. I’m just curious to see how the defense will be without Chase Young who’s suspended for their game today against the Maryland Terrapins. Others will step it up.
3. Penn State Nittany Lions– I’m glad they made it into the first four of the playoff rankings. With wins over a ranked Iowa on the road and Michigan right after that both who were ranked, two wins. They continue to impress me. James Franklin has got the best out of his team this year. Their next two games are tune ups before their showdown at the shoe with Ohio State in a few weeks.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide– They did everything I knew they would in Tua’s absence. Go back to playing Saban Ball which is running the ball to make things comfortable for the quarterback. They didn’t miss a beat with Mac Jones under center. Alabama cruised to another win to get to 8-0. Tua is expected to be back today for the big showdown against the LSU Tigers. This should be fun to watch.
5. Clemson Tigers– The defending champs were on the outside looking in of the first set of playoff rankings! This plays right into their hands because they will use this as bulletin board material. Dabo Swinney will use this to motivate his team to close out the season. It’s simple for them. Win your division title, win your conference championship game and there’s no way the committee can leave you out, especially with a zero still in the loss column.
