“Homecoming”

In 2014, the Green Bay Packers drafted a Wide Receiver from Fresno State named Davante Adams. Early on in his career, he was a depth piece and was often low on the depth chart behind Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson. In 2017, Davante was named to his first Pro Bowl and from there, he became the number one Wide Receiver and Aaron Rodgers’ top target. In 2022, he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders after failed contract negotiations. Just last season, Davante was traded again, this time to the New York Jets and was reunited with his buddy, Aaron. Things didn’t pan out the way many expected, and the Jets ended up releasing the veteran receiver. Where would he go from here? He can still play the game at a high level. This upcoming season, he will be playing for the Los Angeles Rams in his home state of California. The Rams have signed him to a tw0-year deal worth $46 million.

Davante is still one of the elite Wide Receivers in the game today, so don’t let a down year fool any of you. This is a guy you can build your offense around and there’s nothing he can’t do on the football field as he’s the total package. When you defend him, you must keep all eyes on him because if you don’t guess right, it could be a big play or either a touchdown. Davante is the do it all receiver as he can stretch the field vertically, and he works all the areas of the field. He can be lined up just about everywhere, and he’s productive which is all you can ask of him. When it comes to the release off the snap, there aren’t many better than Davante Adams, and he gives Defensive Backs so many different releases that you don’t know where he’s going or what direction he’s heading to and that’s what has also made him elite for many years. I can tell he has a basketball background of some sorts because he’s so shifty when creating that separation. Davante can hit you with one of those Allen Iverson moves, and he has the ball, then it’s a big gain. I also notice how smooth of a route runner he is, and it’s become an art to him. When he has a single man look against him, he’s getting the football and there’s no other way around it. I still don’t understand why teams elect to play him with single man coverage because that’s an insult, and he’s winning that battle each time. I still remember his debut with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. They were playing the Chargers, and he was lined up in the slot and the route he ran made my jaw drop. He broke out, fakes one way and cuts in the opposite direction, makes the catch, but it was how he made the Defensive Back guarding him run in another direction. He’s what I refer to as a slippery route runner.

This is a nice move for the Los Angeles Rams. Davante will play with another Super Bowl winning Quarterback in Matthew Stafford, and he will team up with Puka Nacua who has a bright future ahead of him. A trio of Stafford, Davante and Puka along with Sean McVay calling the plays can be a scary thought if everything pans out for them. I know for a fact he still has a lot of production left in the tank and this will be the best situation he has entered since Green Bay. It didn’t pan out in Vegas with the Raiders and his time with the Jets was brief and that’s all I’ll leave it at. He’ll add veteran knowledge to a young football team.,
