2022 Recap: I always say the sport is better when the legendary programs are relevant. It’s been a struggle in Tallahassee the last few years. Willie Taggart gets fired and the Seminoles hire Mike Norvell to be their next Head Coach. Last season was the most talented roster Mike has inherited since taking the job. I saw such a vast improvement with this Florida State team. They were able to hold leads and remain in games. The 2021 group would just throw the towel in and accept defeat. The Seminoles went from a 5-7 record in 2021 to a 10-3 mark in 2022, including a bowl win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Quarterback Jordan Travis was the catalyst of this offense as he threw 24 touchdown passes to only five interceptions.
Key Departures: DB Jammie Robinson
2023 Prediction: This is one team I’m high on as the season approaches. The ACC has eliminated divisions and it will be the top two teams atop the conference to meet in the title game in Charlotte. I like Florida State to continue its climb up the ladder under Norvell. Eight starters from last season return for an offense that averaged 36 points per game in 2022 and ranked tenth in total offense (484.2 yards per contest). Jordan Travis is a legit Heisman candidate and had a breakout season last fall. This receiving group will be led by 6’7 receiver Johnny Wilson and Michigan State transfer Keon Coleman. On the defense, Jared Verse elected to return for another season. I think he will be the best defensive player in the country this year. Fabian Lovett Sr. also returns. They won ten games a season ago and clinched a bowl berth for the first time in three seasons and they will continue to elevate back into the national limelight.
