2021 Recap: They surprised a lot of people last season, myself included. They had one of the best offenses in the nation which was the strength of their team. It was led by star quarterback, Sam Hartman. The Wake Forest offense was lethal in 2021 as they averaged 41 points per game. Anything they wanted, they got! One issue I had with them last year was their defense. For as much as they scored, they gave up 31 points per game. There were moments when the offense had to sustain long drives to take pressure off the defense. They won the Atlantic division and dethroned the Clemson Tigers who had run the ACC.
Key Departures: WR Jaquarii Roberson, OG Zach Tom & S Ja’Sir Taylor.
2022 Prediction: I really like what Dave Clawson is building with this program. While Clemson may have the best defense in the conference, I still don’t trust the Tigers offense and that’s why I’m picking the Demon Deacons to win this division for the second consecutive season. They return a nice portion of their team from last season. The strength of this football team once again will be their offense. On the other side of the ball, Brad Lambert was hired to fix a defense that struggled last year. Stopping the run was a major concern.
