2022 Campus Cruise: AAC Preview (Part One)

2021 Recap: Let’s admit that things weren’t always smooth for them. They were productive against many poor teams last season. Say what you may feel, but the offense did its job! The Cougars finished sixth in the AAC in total offense. The running game wasn’t always their best friend and that was probably the only inconsistency they had. What made them solid was how they took care of the football. They didn’t turn it over and they moved the chains down the field. Houston was also sixth in the country in time of possession. Quarterback Clayton Tune was in complete command of the offense. He finished 2021 with 39 touchdown passes and ten interceptions all while completing 68 percent of his passes. The defense was also sixth in the nation and number one in the ACC.

Key Departures: RB Alton McCaskill (injury), DT Logan Hall, DB Marcus Jones and Damarion Williams.

2022 Prediction: There’s no excuse. They have talent in each phase of the game. This is their time to capitalize. Clayton is back for another year, the offensive line returns and will be key for this offense. The ground game must be stronger and the offensive line will need to get that push up front. I know they can average four yards per carry. On the defensive side, they must be stronger when it comes to stopping the run. The Cougars open the year up against Texas Tech.
