“Higher Learning”

Can you believe the 2012 NFL Draft will have taken place ten years ago this April? It was the draft that introduced us to Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Brandon Weeden, Ryan Tannehill, and Russell Wilson, or as I like to call him, Russell, Last Name Wilson. Now, Andrew is retired, RGIII is an analyst, Brandon didn’t pan out, Ryan is quarterbacking the Tennessee Titans and Russ is still going strong in the league. In the last few years, everyone has heard about number three possibly leaving Seattle. He’s played his entire career there. Today, the nine-time pro bowler has been traded to the Denver Broncos for Drew Lock, Noah Fant, and some draft picks!

When he’s healthy and on the field, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Over the years, he’s truly developed into a quarterback that can win you a game with his arm. I still remember when he was a few years into the league, he didn’t have to do much because he had the running game to lean on and a consistent defense to get him the ball back when necessary. Now, he’s more than capable of throwing the ball from the pocket. Nobody throws the deep ball better than Russell Wilson. He adds touch on the deep ball that’s out of this world. He knows how to place it to where it drops perfectly into the breadbasket. Russ is still one of the best when it comes to extending plays and if you don’t get to him in time, he will use his mobility. Many of his peers around the league have referred to him as a magician because of his ability to escape. Russ just has a knack for creating plays out of nothing. When something appears to look done, he can keep everything alive. I’ve seen him throw in the pocket and out of the pocket. Russ is such a difficult player to defend and if you don’t contain him or hit him, he’ll run free or make a play with his arm.

I’ve been saying for years the Denver Broncos have needed a quarterback. Ever since Peyton Manning retired, it’s been a struggle for them. Everything has been there. The defense, the offensive line has been strong and they’ve drafted some young receivers over the years. The only thing that was missing was a consistent signal-caller. They have one now. Russ is a veteran who’s played in many big games. This move catapults the Broncos back into the playoff conversation barring any injuries or setbacks. It’s truly been a rotating door of quarterbacks for the Broncos since Peyton. Trevor Siemian, Case Keenum, Paxton Lynch, Joe Flacco, Teddy Bridgewater, and Drew Lock. This is a huge splash before free agency starts next week.
