Week Nine Power Rankings (NCAA Football)

1. Georgia Bulldogs: Nothing has changed. They were on their bye and they return to action today. I remember saying a few months back after the Florida Gators played Alabama in a closely contested game that this years edition of Georgia and Florida would basically determine who would play the Tide in the SEC title game. Now, the game has lost some luster after Florida dropped some more games after that. The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for Kirby and his team. The defense will continue to peak while the offense is getting healthy with some key players returning.

2. Cincinnati Bearcats: They continue to roll. I’m really pulling for them to make the playoffs because it will show that it doesn’t always have to be a team from a major conference to make the field of four. They were given all they could handle against Navy and still won that game by only seven points. The Bearcats defense held Navy to 140 yards rushing. I still don’t see them losing anytime soon. Luke Fickell has created a winning culture within this football team and you see it on display every single week.

3. Alabama Crimson Tide: They defeated the Tennessee Volunteers for the 15th consecutive game. I know they lost a game this year and all, but this is still the best team in the SEC West and still the team you need to knock out if you want to claim the throne at the top of the mountain. How about wide receiver Jameson Williams? Next to Drake London of USC, he’s another dangerous wide receiver that can turn it on at anytime. Next for the defending champs is a showdown with LSU. Who’s ready for another edition of the Saban Bowl?

4. Ohio State Buckeyes: Since the loss to Oregon in week two, they’ve been playing out of this world and I mean that in a good way. The Buckeyes offense is finally clicking after some struggles early on in the year. Kudos to Ryan Day for keeping his team focused on what was in front of them. They dominated the Indiana Hoosiers in Bloomington which has been a tough out for them the last few years. C.J. Stroud has grown up before our eyes with the way he’s been playing as of late. Tonight, they’re back home to welcome Penn State off a nine overtime loss to town.

5. Michigan Wolverines: We will see who they really are the next few weeks. Last weekend, they dominated the Northwestern Wildcats which was a final tune up before their big showdown today. This is a different team under Harbaugh. The running game is back to controlling the offense and the defense is back to being one of the best in college football. It’s rivalry week. The biggest showdown of the weekend takes place today in East Lansing.
