1. Alabama Crimson Tide: After a challenge from the Florida Gators in week three, they got back to their basics and destroyed Southern Miss in week four. This would end up being their 100th consecutive win against a non-ranked opponent. Today, they will face Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels. Last season when these two met, Ole Miss put some points up on the Crimson Tide. I highly doubt if Nick Saban forgot that. I can’t wait to see how Alabama prepares to limit Matt Corral and that Rebels offense.
2. Georgia Bulldogs: Did you see how they dominated Vanderbilt last week. At the end of a quarter, it was a 35 point blowout. They ended up winning their game by 62 points and it was a shutout by the way. They have been scary good this year. The offensive line is keeping their quarterbacks up on their feet and the defense is physically imposing their will on anyone in front of them. 5-0 could be more of a challenge for them to get to with a tough Arkansas Razorbacks team in town for a big time SEC showdown in Athens.
3. Oregon Ducks: They cruised in their Pac-12 opener against the Arizona Wildcats. The Ducks haven’t missed a beat since that big win in Columbus back in week two. This is1 the best team in the conference. I was confident in saying this in the Summer and I’m standing by it. Arizona has been handled. Now, they will face a familiar face today. David Shaw and the Stanford Cardinal who upset the USC Trojans already this season.
4. Penn State Nittany Lions: Sean Clifford is throwing the football with more authority now and he’s answered my question, can he take games over with his arm. Against Villanova last weekend, he torched them to the tune of 401 yards passing and four touchdowns. This week, they’ll take on an Indiana squad who’s not as tough as people made them seem to be entering the year. Next week looms a top-five matchup with the Iowa Hawkeyes in a humongous showdown in the Big Ten.
5. Iowa Hawkeyes: They did get off to a sluggish start against Colorado State. However, in the second half, they pitched a 17-0 shutout to improve to 4-0. This has been the most physical team in the Big Ten that stops the run, covers the pass well and forces those interceptions. Next weekend is their biggest game in recent memory. A date with the Penn State Nittany Lions with some big time implications in the Big Ten.
