“The Neverending Story”

Okay, I’m back here to talk about a name that’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons. I think you know where I’m going with this. That’s Josh Gordon. The talent is all there for him. He has an addiction issue as he’s been suspended from the league because of failed drug tests. You try to root for him, but he continues to throw the opportunities given to him away. He did step away to focus on his mental health. Before the 2019 season, the New England Patriots announced they would bring Josh back. After landing on the injured reserve list, they would end up releasing him. The Seattle Seahawks ended up signing him. Just last week, I saw he would be reinstated and eventually eligible to play in week four. On Twitter last week and on the radio, I said that if one team needed his services badly, it’s the defending AFC champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. Today, the news broke out that the Chiefs are signing the veteran wide receiver.

When he’s focused and in the right system, he’s a strong force to be reckoned with. Josh is 6’3 and 225 pounds but moves as if he were a smaller receiver because he can play out the slot. He brings that big play threat to any offense he’s added too. To be a bigger, possession receiver, he gets up the field like a smaller and speedy guy because of the speed he possesses. If you try playing him one on one, he’ll eat the secondary alive with his speed and he positions himself perfectly to make the catch. He has a nice release off the line of scrimmage and with the ball in his hands, he’s a menace in the open field with how he moves. Josh is the mix of a hard runner but has been labeled as a smooth route runner because he gets where he wants effortlessly. It’s amazing to see what he can do for a man his size. He plays with excellent body control to keep himself in bounds after making the catch. I’ve even seen Josh used on jet sweeps. They will use him anyway he can get the football in his hands.

Just a few weeks ago, I said I was concerned about the Chiefs offense because after Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, who else did they have to step up when those two are either limited or one of them is injured. Mecole Hardman is good, but he’s a slot guy that sneaks into the teeth of the defense. Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson are good, but they don’t put it together on a consistent basis. If this works out, this is a scary thought not just for the AFC, but the entire league. The Chiefs let Sammy Watkins go in the off-season and have paid for it early on this season. As I’ve said before, I really hope this pans out. This could be his final shot with a team
