9. Alvin Kamara: One player has been revealed. The second one is being presented now. The Saints took a chance on this one guy who played his college football with the Tennessee Volunteers. He was a third-round pick and from there, the rest is history. He has become an intricate part of Sean Payton’s offensive scheme in New Orleans. Remember what I say about being drafted. It doesn’t matter when you’re selected. Get your foot in the door and let your play do the talking. He has. I’m talking about Alvin Kamara. He checks into the ninth spot on my list and he’s my second-ranked running back coming into the 2021 season.
This is the running back every team would go all-in for. I refer to Alvin’s style of play as electrifying. He’s the type of player that can do everything you ask of him and then some. Alvin is what I call a “slippery, yet powerful runner”. What I mean is he finds ways to get around defenders. He’s always trying to find some way to counteract how you’re going to tackle him. I don’t know how he does it, but he uses momentum against you and gains three or four additional yards. In the running game, he’s a threat as he can run inside and outside the tackles. To me, he does his most damage in the passing game as a receiver. There’s been plenty of times where he’s had the football checked down to him and takes it 20 or 30 yards. Alvin is a mismatch in space. Sometimes, he’ll ever score a touchdown as a receiver. On Christmas day against the Minnesota Vikings, he scored six touchdowns in a single game.
The Saints offense catered to him in many ways last year. With Michael Thomas on and off the field with a lingering ankle injury and Drew Brees’ arm strength diminishing, Alvin was their biggest offensive contributor. He’s exactly what Reggie Bush was supposed to be for the Saints offense all those years ago when he was drafted. I see many similarities in the skillsets between the two of them. It’ll be a different year in New Orleans and the offense will continue to travel through number 41.
