2020 Recap: They lost two games and didn’t qualify for the playoffs. However, the Oklahoma Sooners won their sixth Big 12 conference title in a row. Spencer Rattler came in replacing another big name at quarterback in Jalen Hurts and had the ups and downs of a true freshman. Their offense will keep them in games. I was impressed with their defense! I know, it’s been a struggling point for them for years. In 2019, they allowed 27 points per game. Last season, 21 given up a game which is a huge improvement for them. They defeated the Iowa State Cyclones in the Big 12 title game last December and won the Cotton Bowl over the Florida Gators weeks later.
Notable Departures: C Creed Humphrey, OT Adrian Ealy, DE Ronnie Perkins & DB Tre Norwood.
2021 Prediction: They are trending in the right direction. For the seventh consecutive year, the Oklahoma Sooners will claim another conference title. Spencer Rattler is primed for a big year in 2021. He has a full off-season to learn this offense. The offense won’t miss a beat under Lincoln Riley. The improving defense I feel will give them a chance to advance further if they make the playoffs. The bulk of their defense returns this fall. That includes Perrion Winfrey and Isaiah Thomas upfront. If they can display consistency on both sides of the ball, watch out.
