“Good Tides”

Whenever I think of the people in the game of football who have accomplished so much, I quote Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter: What more can I say? This definitely applies to a living legend in our sport, Mr. Nick Saban. Each year, you can pencil his Alabama Crimson Tide football teams to win 11 or 12 games tops, clinch the SEC West, play in the SEC conference title game, make the playoffs and win the national title. For more success, the University of Alabama decided to reward Nick with a contract extension that will keep him in Tuscaloosa until the 2028 season. He will be 77 years old when this contract expires.

Nick is the best coach in college football, easily. The success speaks for itself. In the 14 years, he’s been at Alabama, they’ve established themselves as the elite program in the country. I think of all the big names who have played under him who are in the NFL now. Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs, Mac Jones, Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, DeVonta Smith. That’s just to name a few. Many of his players have left his program and been drafted at the next level. Also, many who’ve played for him have been selected in the first round. As a coach, his players love him. Whenever I see his Crimson Tide teams, structure and discipline are the two things that always stand out to me. Over the years, his teams have won games in several ways. The defense has always been a mantra at Alabama, but as of late, it’s been the offense grabbing the attention. Nick has a knack for keeping his teams focused at all times.

In his tenure at Alabama, his record is 170-23. That’s a .881 winning percentage. His six national championship-winning teams with the Crimson Tide have a 21-2 record over top-ten opponents. Also, Alabama has been ranked number one in the Associated Press polls for at least one week for 13 straight seasons which surpassed Miami who had a record of seven years from 1986-1992. Since the start of the 2014 season, Saban is 59-5 against SEC opponents. Alabama also hasn’t lost to a non-conference opponent since 2007, his first year as coach.
