Intriguing Game– Week 15
Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals
Eagles: Doug Pedersen finally did it. He benched Carson Wentz in favor of Jalen Hurts. In his first start, he looked sharp under center. He completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 167 yards with a touchdown pass and he rushed for another 100 yards helping the Eagles get a big win over a Saints team that was streaking over the last few months. Also, I noticed the Eagles appearing to have more fun with Jalen in this game alone more than they did in all the games that Carson started. Sunday was also the best I’ve seen them look all year, especially the offensive line because they didn’t give up any sacks which is a stat that should be celebrated. Even at 4-8-1, they are still in the hunt for their division (snickers). It’s a showdown in Arizona next.
Cardinals: They were finally able to stop losing in week 14. The last time they won a football game, they completed the “Hail Murray” on the Buffalo Bills. Sunday was the best I’ve seen them look in a while. Their offense was balanced and the defense which has been up and down looked like the 1985 Chicago Bears against the New York Giants. Haason Reddick had a career-high five sacks and the Cardinals defense forced three turnovers. I like Kyler Murray and I think he’s a special player. This year though, he’s been up and down at times. He’s had moments where he looked like an MVP candidate then, he’s struggled. Where’s that model of consistency? With the win, they kept their slim playoff hopes alive. They’re back home for a showdown on Sunday with Philly.
Eagles X-Factor: Miles Sanders– They finally fed him the ball and let him work. Think back to when the Eagles won the Super Bowl, they ran the football. With a young quarterback at the helm now, establishing a ground game can limit the pressure of Hurts. I also like the versatility Miles brings to the table.
Cardinals X-Factor: Zach Allen– He’s a physical, downhill player that loves getting after the quarterback. He’s been counted on to come in and help replace Chandler Jones which isn’t easy to do. Zach has violent hands to shed blockers. Make your presence felt in this one young man.
Final Thoughts: This game screamed at me on the schedule. The Eagles still have a chance to get to the playoffs. Arizona on the other hand is looking to keep themselves in the Wild Card race. The Cardinals must do everything they can to make Hurts a passer. The Eagles need to amp up their pass rush to hit Kyler early on. Which supporting cast steps up to make bigger plays?
Prediction: Cardinals 29 Eagles 24
