“New Things”

Saturday Spotlight

(13) BYU Tigers at (18) Coastal Carolina Chanticleers

BYU: What a season they’ve had. Amongst the elite teams in the country, you don’t hear a single thing about them. They’re 9-0. I’m sure it has something to do with the fact they don’t play in a power five conference and that’s just an unfortunate truth. I like the way this team is built. They are one of the more complete teams in college football. The offense is a machine! What truly makes it stand out is the explosive running game. Also, the quarterback isn’t too bad either. He goes by the name of Zach Wilson. Watching the tape on him, he does everything whether it’s from the pocket or with his feet. He’s a must-see when he’s on the field. The Cougars also have a stingy defense that is allowing fewer than 300 yards per game. Today, they’ll make a cross country trip to South Carolina.

Coastal Carolina: If I had to use a word to describe them, it’s battle-tested. They have some impressive this year. I understand the Kansas Jayhawks aren’t a great team, but it’s a road victory over a Big-12 team which is a power five conference. They’ve defeated both Louisiana and Appalachian State. What I like about them is how complete they are as a football team. The Chanticleers are a phenomenal group that converts often on third down that leads to ball control which then turns the tempo in their favor in the game. Quarterback Grayson McCall has been special for them. Their offensive line keeps Grayson protected upfront. Then, their defense is a group that is always working. They have a nice pass rush and they force turnovers. Today, they welcome Zack Wilson and BYU to town.

BYU X-Factor: Tyler Allgeier– I remember watching BYU’s first game this year against Navy, he took over and Navy could do nothing to stop him! He’s a downhill runner that depends on power, speed, and strength to get by defenders. Use him to confuse Coastal Carolina’s defense.

Coastal Carolina X-Factor: Isaiah Likely– He’s the perfect safety valve for any quarterback. That’s what tight ends are for because there’s no legit way to limit them. You can only hope to contain them. Isaiah has the speed to get up and down the field quickly for the catch. He can give this BYU defense some problems.

Final Thoughts: You can never go wrong with two 9-0 teams! I can’t wait to watch Zach Wilson play. There are always guys you see tape on, then you get to watch them live. Both these teams are so like one another. BYU is complete and they rarely make mistakes. Also, this will be the toughest challenge for Coastal Carolina. Furthermore, no matter what happens, this is great exposure for both of these programs.

Prediction: BYU 31 Coastal Carolina 21
