Can you believe it’s been over a year since the Antonio Brown fiasco? Remember when the Steelers traded him to the then Oakland Raiders? Everyone thought this was going to elevate the Raiders into a contender in the AFC. There was more drama off the field than there was on it. He wanted to be released and his wish was granted. Then, he gets picked up by the New England Patriots, plays in one game and then is released because of more off the field issues. Before this year started, he was suspended for eight games by the league. After his suspension is up, he’ll have a new home in Tampa Bay playing for the Buccaneers.
When his head on correctly, there’s no denying his greatness. For years, he was widely regarded as the best wide receiver in the game. In Pittsburgh, he was Ben Roethlisberger’s top target and for obvious reasons. I’ve seen with multiple defenders around him and he’s still made the catch. That just goes to show you how much his quarterback trusts him. AB runs the route tree consistently and because of the quarterback he played with, he could extend his route running which could tire whoever is defending him. He knows how to adjust to free himself no matter the coverage. His footwork is some of the best I’ve ever seen from a wide out. The concentration he displays to keep himself in bounds amazes me.
From 2013 to 2018, AB has caught 100 or more passes in consecutive seasons. The last time we saw this happen, it was Marvin Harrison and now, he’s in the Hall of Fame. This Tampa offense was already clicking. Now, you add AB to the fold and it’s even scarier. Brady, Jones, Gronk, Evans, Godwin and Brown? Incredible.
