Nick Bosa was the best defensive end in the country while at Ohio State. His draft was also high. In the 2019 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers made him the second overall pick. John Lynch said he wanted to build up that offensive line and he did just that. In his first year, he had an immediate impact on the 49ers defense that was one of the best in the league last season. Nick was named the Defensive Rookie of the Year for his 2019 season. Today, unfortunately, injures were a common theme around the league. Nick’s name was on that list. He’s torn his ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2020 season.
In just a short time, he’s become the 49ers best defensive player. He can do anything he wants at his position. Nick is a defensive end with the violent hands to push against any blocker. Double teams don’t even work on him because he has the quickness to shed those blockers. Nick is so strong with his movements. You can think you have him down, but he does exactly what every coach teaches and that’s playing until that whistle is blown. Besides pass-rushing, he’s an excellent run stopper. He plays lanes well, he’s knowledgeable about gaps and how to attack them plus, he knows where to be at the right time to make a play.
This is a big blow for the 49ers defense. The team traded away DeForest Buckner in the off-season and for more bad news, Solomon Thomas got hurt today as well. This San Francisco defense is anchored by its defensive line. But now, others will need to step it up. The 49ers were already hit by the injury bug, this is devastating news for the NFC champions.
