Deshaun Watson was one of college football’s biggest superstars. I still remember his two performances in back to back national title games. He and the Clemson Tigers were able to redeem themselves and get revenge on the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2017. Deshaun connected with Hunter Renfrow for the game-winning touchdown. The Houston Texans a few months later decided to draft the quarterback with the 12th overall pick. The Texans were in major need of a quarterback. He’s been everything they could’ve hoped for. He was the next quarterback to get a contract extension. It’s happened! Today, he signed a four-year deal worth $160 million. A monster deal for a star player.
He’s elite. In a short timespan, Deshaun has become one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The Texans aren’t a division winner without him. Plain and simple. The best aspect of his game is how he eludes people. He’s one of the greatest escape artists we have playing the position. Pass rushers may think they have him down, but he finds a way to move and keep the play alive. I’ve seen him do this countless times. He’ll either run with the ball or make a throw on the run. Deshaun can beat you with his arm, his legs, or as a receiver. He can catch the football to make a play if necessary. His fundamentals are top-notch.
The thing I’m in awe of with him is no stage is too big for him. This goes back to his college days. The brighter the lights, the better he is. he Wild Card round against the Buffalo Bills in January. With his team down by 16 points, he handles the rest. The extension makes him the second-highest-paid quarterback in the league behind Patrick Mahomes.
