“Bag It Chief”

The Kansas City Chiefs have been on cloud nine for most of this year. In February, they win the Super Bowl for the first time in 50 seasons. Just last month, they were able to extend Chris Jones and make Patrick Mahomes the richest athlete in the history of sports. There’s no way that they could give anyone else money, right? In the words of the legend, Mr. Lee Corso: Not so fast. After seeing George Kittle get a contract extension, the Chiefs knew they had to pay their tight end and they did. Travis Kelce has signed a four-year, $57 million extension.

This is the best tight end we have in the league at the moment. To be playing the tight end position, he has amazing body control which makes look like another wide receiver for this Chiefs offense. What separates him from other tight ends is how tactical of a route runner he is. He adjusts so well during the game to make a play. Travis has a great knack for finding the soft spots in a zone scheme. I’ve always been a fan of how the Chiefs use him within the offense. In the slot or wide on the perimeter, he’s making his presence felt regardless. In space, he attacks everything. Travis makes plays upon the football. When in the open field, he displays excellent breakaway speed.

Travis is the first tight end in NFL history to record four straight 1,000 yard seasons. I remember how he dominated in the comeback win against the Houston Texans in the playoffs. He finished that game with ten catches, 136 yards receiving and three touchdowns. The Chiefs core of players is intact for years to come. We will see Mahomes and Kelce continue to pick defenses apart.
