“This Is Chris Jones”

The Kansas City Chiefs have been the talk of the news for obvious reasons. Of course, they decided to go all-in with the contract extension for Patrick Mahomes. That made him the richest athlete in sports history. Now, there was another question mark. What would they do about Chris Jones? He was given the franchise tag a few months ago by the Chiefs. He even threatened to hold out this season which would’ve been bad for them. Well, that won’t be necessary. The Chiefs have reached a long-term deal with Chris. A four-year deal worth $85 million. $60 million guaranteed.

Each football team has that guy who serves as the source of energy. That’s exactly the role that Chris serves in for the entire team. However, his impact on the defense is essential. He was meant to play football. Chris plays the defensive tackle position with a huge mean streak that he wears on his uniform. When I watch him play, I see a scrappy football player that just pushes people around. He only has one thing on his mind. Getting to the quarterback and he does that consistently. I’ve seen him terrorize offensive linemen. His first step is impeccable. Chris is so quick and powerful off the snap of the ball that many guys struggle to limit him. For a man his size, he’s beyond electric with his speed.

I’m thrilled that this deal got done. Next to Patrick, Chris is the Chiefs second most important player. As I said in the opening paragraph, had he held out, the Chiefs defense would’ve have struggled. That’s the important factor he brings to them. Making this move, the Chiefs aren’t trying to win division titles, they are in the business of collecting rings. It’s Super Bowl or bust.
