2019 Recap: What a year they had. They were so dominant winning every game on their schedule by double digits. This was the first year under Ryan Day, Urban Meyer’s successor. The Buckeyes offense was scary. Anchored by Justin Fields and nice complementary weapons in Chris Olave, K.J Hill and running back J.K. Dobbins. Defensively, Chase Young commanded much attention. Once again, the Buckeyes won the division, won the Big Ten championship for the third straight season and clinched the two seed in the College Football Playoffs where they were a few plays away from advancing to the title game but fell short to Clemson.
Notable Losses: RB J.K. Dobbins, OG Jonah Jackson, OT Brandon Bowen, DE Chase Young, LB Malik Harrison, DB Jeff Okudah, DB Damon Arnette.
2020 Outlook: This is the best team in the Big Ten and I don’t see them falling from the top anytime soon. They will win the Big Ten East and clinch yet another trip to Indianapolis for the conference title game in December. Justin Fields is back for another year with Olave and Garrett Wilson as his primary receivers on the outside. Replacing J.K. Dobbins won’t be easy. However, Ryan Day has his options to replace him as the starting running back. Demario McCall, Marcus Crowley, Master Teague and Steele Chambers are set to battle for carries. The defense will regroup. They received great news when cornerback Shaun Wade decided to return for his senior year. I can’t wait for the Buckeyes trip to Eugene when they face the Oregon Ducks early on in the season. A rematch of the 2014 National Title game.
