Todd Gurley was one of the best running backs in the country with the Georgia Bulldogs. He earned All-SEC honors in 2012 and 2013. Despite missing three games in his junior year due to a torn ACL, The-then St. Louis Rams decided to pick Todd with the tenth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. In his rookie campaign, Todd rushed for 1,106 yards and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year for his efforts. In 2018, the-now Los Angeles Rams signed the running back to a $60 million extension which made him the highest-paid running back in the league. Since signing that contract, he’s now been released. However, he’s found a new home. He’ll be an Atlanta Falcon.
I know the numerous leg issues have been a concern for many people. Although it’s been a lingering topic, when he’s healthy, Todd is one of the best running backs in this business. To be a successful running back, you must have field vision. Todd has been excellent in that aspect of the game. He’s elusive and when given the opportunity, he can break the play open. He can do it all. I’ve seen him run through would-be tacklers, run around you or use the stiff arm. Todd is a special player with the football in his hands. He’s a hard runner with the combination of size, power and speed. As a defender, accounting for him as a receiver is a must. He’s so well-rounded as a back.
I wasn’t shocked that the Rams decided to cut him. It was smart because they appear to head in a different direction and Todd wasn’t apart of their plans moving forward which I could understand. He was named Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 after scoring 19 touchdowns. Hopefully this can work.
