Offseason Predictions

1. Packers sign A.J. Green– Throughout the year in 2019, my biggest question mark for the Packers was who would be that other consistent weapon for Aaron Rodgers? He only could depend on Davante Adams and Aaron Jones. You take those two away, who does number 12 turn to? This is where I see the Packers front office making a big-time splash when free agency comes. Go get your franchise quarterback another weapon! A.J. Green would be perfect for Rodgers. He’s a possession threat that creates all over the field and in space with the ball in his hands. He would be what Jimmy Graham was expected to become when he signed with the Packers (fail). A move like this could make the Packers a potential favorite not just in their division, but the NFC.

2. Ravens acquire Stefon Diggs– If you’ve watched the Minnesota Vikings closely, their offense is built around Adam Thielen. That’s Kirk Cousins’ go-to guy. Throughout the 2019 season, you saw Stefon Diggs visibly upset when he didn’t get the ball. He may have not said much, but body language speaks louder than any words ever could. The Baltimore Ravens could use another threat on the outside. This is a match made for each other if you ask me. If this were to happen, he’d be the best receiver the Ravens have had since the days of Anquan Boldin. The passing game would revolve around him. Why not add more weapons for the reigning MVP?

3. Brady Returns– For the first time, the greatest quarterback of all time will be seeing what’s out there in free agency. The thought of Tom Brady on another team is weird to envision. Then again, many legendary quarterbacks have finished their careers elsewhere. Joe Montana was drafted by the 49ers. In 1993, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs and retired from there in 1995. Brett Favre was a Packer for life? Right? He retires after the 2007 season only to come back and Green Bay traded him to the Jets. After one year playing for New York, he signs with the Minnesota Vikings. Peyton Manning was a Colt for 14 years. He finished the final four years of his career in Denver. I think Tom is a Patriot for life.

4. Dez signs with New England– What segue that was. What ended up hurting the Patriots down the stretch was their lack of a big playmaker. You saw how much they truly missed Rob Gronkowski. We don’t know how much longer Brady has. If he does return, give him a true number one? This is where Dez Bryant comes into the conversation. He almost got his shot to play with a Hall of Fame quarterback a few seasons back in New Orleans. The Patriots need a receiver of his services. They need a receiver who can consistently take the top off the coverage. A possession guy to also replace the production of Gronk will also help them. I’m not saying they need to necessarily break the bank for him. I can see Brady and Dez connecting on long passes already.

5. Cam Chooses Chicago– Outside of Brady and Philip Rivers, Cam Newton is probably the biggest quarterback that could hit the market in free agency. The only concern surrounding him is his health. How healthy is he? I don’t see him returning to the Panthers. If you’re the Bears, this is a no brainer (then again you did pass up on Mahomes and Watson) to trade up and get Mitchell Tribusky. How’s that working for you? With a healthy Newton under center, the Bears could make noise once again. Read once more, only if he’s healthy.

6. Rivers flowing to Indy– After Andrew Luck shocked the world in August announcing his retirement, Jacoby Brissett was a good fill in for him. For the foreseeable future? Not at all. Philip Rivers and the Los Angeles Chargers have decided to part ways which made number 17 a free agent for the first time in his career. The Indianapolis Colts make a lot of sense for the veteran quarterback. They have a phenomenal offensive line anchored by Quenton Nelson, nice weapons to complement him and the head coach is a former quarterback. Make your move Indy. This would make the AFC South much more interesting. The Texans won the division last year and the Titans were a game away from playing in the Super Bowl.
