Week Two Power Rankings (NFL)

1. New England Patriots– It gets no more complete than what we saw last Sunday night against the Steelers. People can say there’s uncertainty about their offense and I just sit here and say this: If number 12 is under center, everything will be just fine. Josh Gordon picked up where he left off, Edelman was Edelman, they fed Sony Michel the football and Phillip Dorsett had a big game. I was impressed with their defense and how they made things miserable for Ben Roethlisberger holding that Steelers offense to just a field goal. It’s now time for Miami in Florida, a place where they’ve struggled the last few seasons. Antonio Brown is expected to play today.

2. Kansas City Chiefs– You know what’s scary? Their offense dropped 40 points on a solid Jacksonville defense in week one. Patrick Mahomes looked like the guy that took home league MVP, LeSean McCoy looked rejuvenated playing under Andy Reid again and Sammy Watkins had a big day! If he can stay healthy, he just gives Mahomes another weapon. Speaking of Watkins, he’ll be targeted more with Tyreek Hill sidelined for a few weeks with the shoulder injury. The news on Hill is unfortunate, but the Chiefs have more than enough to keep it moving offensively without him.

3. Dallas Cowboys– I was really impressed with how they played against the Giants. Since the end of last season, the Cowboys have simplified things for Dak Prescott. They want him to use his arm and not always have to depend on Ezekiel Elliott to move the ball down the field. He had the best game of his career on Sunday. He completed of his 32 pass attempts, 405 yards passing, and four touchdown passes. That’s probably the most locked in I’ve ever seen him look. He also finished with a perfect passer rating (158.3). This could be the best set of weapons surrounding Dak. Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, Jason Witten is back and don’t forget Randall Cobb.

4. Los Angeles Rams– That was an ugly win for them in Charlotte last Sunday. Jared Goff wasn’t sharp; Aaron Donald had the quietest day of his career and special teams played very sloppily. Others stepped up though and contributed. Cory Littleton was all over the field for them. 14 solo tackles, an interception and a forced fumble which he recovered. I feel this win showed the inevitable depth. After the opening week victory, it’s time for the game many have been waiting for. Their home opener against the Saints in the NFC title game rematch.

5. Philadelphia Eagles– It felt like the old days in South Philadelphia last Sunday. First, DeSean Jackson is still taking tops off coverages at age 32 and still looks like the same guy who came into the league with the Eagles a decade ago. Speaking of the old days, Carson Wentz looked a lot like the guy who was the lock to win MVP before the unfortunate injury in 2017. If he can stay healthy, plays with consistency and the defense makes their plays, this is a dangerous team moving forward.
